Catherine Frymark
Frymark, winner of Cablefax’s 2015 PR Executive of the Year Faxies award, is one of the busiest communications execs we know. Among her many accomplishments in the past year was successfully shifting Discovery Communications’ upfront away from a stage presentation to more tailored presentations directly to media-buying agencies. She also led the company through its inaugural Investor Day and first-ever newfront presentation. Plus, she has taken on the role as president of the Association of Cable Communicators. How does she relax? “I’ve finally started meditation classes this year…emptying the mind can make room for great new ideas.”
What’s the most important aspect of mentoring?
Diligence and dedication to the relationship. Success mentorship take time on both sides. Discovery has a strong formal mentorship program called Mentornet that I enjoy taking part in each year…meeting fantastic early career talent and watching them grow with the company is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.
Best trick for maintaining the personal-professional life balance?
Best trick is to stop trying to achieve “balance”…you’ll be disappointed and more stressed. Try thinking of it as personal-professional “integration” and take the opportunities afforded by workplace mobility so you can keep and enjoy your personal commitments and still keep up-to-date on work.
Your favorite trick for unwinding?
After having this on my personal to-do list for years, I’ve finally started meditation classes this year…emptying the mind can make room for great new ideas!
