Although Pivot is set to shut down this fall, Lewis-Long knows a thing or two about starting new chapters. She authored two children’s books on surrogacy, with a third untitled tome in the works. The exec/author gives a low review to the cable world’s efforts on diversity. “I think our industry is really trying,” she says, but notes each company should have “a dedicated person within each of these companies as the gatekeeper or diversity officer, making sure hiring managers are looking at qualified candidates of color insuring the company and departments have a diverse staff and team.”

What grade do you give the cable industry on diversity and why?
C-. I think our industry is really trying. However, I believe unless you have a dedicated person within each of these companies as the gatekeeper or diversity officer, making sure hiring managers are looking at qualified candidates of color insuring the company and departments have a diverse staff and team, people tend to hire people that look like them – it’s human nature.

What are the television show/s – cable or broadcast – best embrace diversity?
“Modern Family,” “Black-ish” and “Orange Is the New Black.”

My personal election campaign slogan would be…-
“You can’t fix Stupid, but you can Vote it Out” Make the right choice!
