Bill Goodwyn
Title: President & CEO, Discovery Education; CEO, Domestic Content Distribution, Discovery Communications
Years in Cable: 32
Education: BA, Journalism, UNC Chapel Hill
Best Advice in 7 Words or Less: Manage the business, not your career.

Want to see Goodwyn light up? Ask him about Discovery Education’s digital textbook business. You’ll quickly understand it’s more than business, but something he truly believes will transform American classrooms—all through the use of broadband.  Discovery Education has become the fastest growing division of Discovery Communications since Goodwyn took the helm. Of course, with the track record Goodwyn has built over his 27-year career at Discovery on the distribution side, there was little doubt he’d take Education to new heights. In the coming year, he’ll oversee the launch of the Discovery Educator Network, a global community of education professionals and new partnerships with the division. And yes, he still oversees all domestic distribution as well. Busy much, Bill?

I watch most programming on this device: Airplane seatbacks, but prefer to be home watching Discovery Channel on a television.
Favorite screen: A screen porch at a beach house. Notwithstanding that screen, it’s the television. I have been leaning in at work with iPads, iPhones and computers all week, so it’s nice to lean back with the TV.
Favorite vacation spot: Wherever my wife and kids are.
Apple iWatch or Rolex? Neither… Would rather take the family on a vacation instead.
If I could interrupt Kanye West just once, I would tell him… “don’t hate the playa”
Twitter, Instagram or Snapchat? Whichever one my kids will respond to a message from me…
Desert island album: The Beatles – White Album
Favorite TV show as a kid: “Wild Wild West.” Jim West could always get out of jam.
The last time I had a good laugh was… when I was reading some of the answers in this magazine.
