Within 24 hours, the telethon, which was broadcast worldwide through the Filipino Channel to help in the relief efforts, raised over $320,000 from viewers all over the US and Canada, who donated via phone and online. The program, which covered the strongest storm recorded at landfall, was put together in the midst of the anguish and chaos in the Philippines. It not only provided real-time storm updates, but also featured stories of Filipinos in North America who worried about their loved-ones’ safety and well-being, as well as local and national leaders who assured the community that help was on its way.
