It’s hard to keep step with the digital innovations Cheng tireless champions for Disney/ABC, always with an eye to making the company’s content more accessible and dynamic. Among the most recent: Cheng and his team scored a 2011 Primetime Emmy for their ABC.com Oscar Digital Experience, their fourth technical Emmy since 2006. They followed that this year by further redesigning the site, which drew 42% more visitors between the nomination announcements and Oscar telecast than in 2011. The Disney/ABC Oscar app was downloaded 370,000 times, a 1,154% (yes, you read right) jump over 2011. Cheng’s latest contribution? Redesigned Disney Channel and Disney XD sites, which bowed in April with a content feed home page that serves videos, games, shout-out and voting modules, plus photo galleries.
What’s your favorite digital toy and why? The iPad. It’s my personal HD portal to the world’s information, entertainment and community anywhere I go.
When it comes to digital trends, what’s something the kids are doing today that we’ll all be doing tomorrow? Mouse? What’s that?
What’s cable’s biggest digital opportunity in the next year? To make TV everywhere an integral part of our viewer’s lives.
Would you rather own a flying car or a jetpack and why? A flying car so that I can take family and friends with me.
