Zhone Gains Market Share for GPON
Zhone Technologies continued to recognize worldwide market gains for its gigabit passive optical network (GPON) solutions in the second quarter of 2010 as North American operators broke ground on stimulus-funded broadband projects and service providers in regions such as the Nordics, the Caribbean and Latin America made significant new investments in fiber upgrades to support the increased bandwidth demands of advanced triple-play services.
According to market analyst firm Broadband Trends: ?As of Q2 2010, Zhone was recognized as the number 3 (tied) vendor worldwide for GPON revenue for rolling 4-quarters (3Q 2009 – 2Q 2010); and the number 4 vendor in the North America region for GPON ports for 2Q 2010.
Zhone has shipped more than 600 MXK systems total to over 100 service providers globally with a potential capacity to support over 5.5 million FTTH subscribers. Zhone’s MXK platform is a fully redundant, carrier-grade all-IP platform and terabit access concentrator. The MXK provides non-blocking capacity of up to 3,600 100 Mbps GPON subscribers or 360 1G Active Ethernet subscribers.
