Know a woman with a technological bent in your organization who’s leaning in and standing out in her job, thus pushing herself and your cableco or vendor group to increased success in the marketplace? The nominations window now is open for the 2013 Women in Technology Award, the prestigious honor jointly presented by Women in Cable Telecommunications (WICT), the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) and CTDaily. Sponsored by Bright House Networks, the award was created in 1995 to acknowledge the achievements of an outstanding woman in technology who has demonstrated significant personal and professional growth, and who has contributed to the advancement of the cable industry, a traditionally male-dominated industry sector. The nominee must serve in a technical position in the cable or telecom industry, and she must be a current member of WICT and SCTE.

What makes for a winner? It’s more than just day-to-day job performance. Jennifer Yohe Wagner, vice president/Strategic Business Procurement at Comcast Cable and the 2012 WIT honoree, notes, “I probably mentor more than two dozen young women. I’ve had a lot of young women ask me, ‘is it hard to do what you do?’ I’ll let them observe. I’ll let them sit and watch me when I’m negotiating deals to see if that’s really what they want to do. I want them to learn as much as they can about the business.” Yohe Wagner will present the 2013 award during SCTE’s Annual Awards Luncheon at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2013, set for Oct. 21-24 in Atlanta.
