Sister pub CableFAX Daily reports that NBCU, Bain Capital and The Blackstone Group have announced the signing of a definitive agreement on Sunday to purchase The Weather Channel from Landmark Communications. The Weather Channel will be operated as a separate entity, and will continue to be based in Atlanta. NBCU will provide management services. Financial terms weren’t disclosed. The deal, expected to be complete by year-end, includes The Weather Channel Networks, The Weather Channel Interactive, and Weather Services International. CT interviewed The Weather Channel CIO Brian Shield in its IT Executive. The Shield interview is on page 15.
