CableLabs qualified Motorola’s multi-stream CableCARD, which supports 2-way interactive apps such as VOD and picture-in-picture. Current CableCARDs only allow unidirectional digital cable service. CableLabs expects multi-stream cards, or M-Cards, to be available from major MSOs within the next few months.

Another DirecTV Duopoly Strikeout

Another broadcast deal received the blessing of the FCC Media Bureau over DirecTV’s objections. The Mario Peter Iacobelli Revocable Trust, which controls Heritage Broadcasting, got the green light Thursday to acquire Cadillac Telecasting’s WFQX and WFUP.
