EVP, Communications Starz
Apostolou is known among contemporaries as a fierce leader with incredible passion for the cable business and Starz’s success. No one knows this better than the network’s brass, which rewarded her with a promotion to EVP this March. As a newly independent global entertainment company, Starz’s branding and messaging is tantamount to the company’s success. “My favorite part of the job is that I am in on the ground floor helping to build the newly independent Starz,” she says. “Chris (Albrecht) has an incredible vision for the company, and I love coming to work. Building something new is all the fun and incredibly gratifying.”
What’s your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of the job is that I am in on the ground floor helping to build the newly independent Starz. Chris (Albrecht) has an incredible vision for the company, and I love coming to work. Build something new is all the fun and incredibly gratifying.
How do you define success in the workplace?
Everyone has their own benchmark, but I believe that success hinges on fostering a collaborative atmosphere where the "team win" is the ultimate goal. We’re in the trenches together every day and are an ambitious group with our own points of view. That makes for… lively… discussions, but achieving a team win means we are all moving in the same direction and support one another. Nothing is more fulfilling than that.
What’s the biggest story in the industry this year?
Multiplatform binge viewing. TiVo, DVR and Distributors On Demand services have allowed us to ‘binge watch’ series for years now, but explosion of options to watch on multiple screens and take your entertainment with you is a real game changer and opportunity for the media industry. Although, I am still a purist and fan of TV who appreciates the weekly roll out of a series, because I can engage in the "watercooler" buzz… On Twitter.
