BigBand recently announced that its commercial deployments of switched digital video (SDV) have now passed more than 5 million households in the United States. Three of the top five U.S. cable operators have selected BigBand’s switched digital solution, including Time Warner Cable, which was an early adopter of the technology.

Time Warner Cable Senior Network Architect Paul Brooks has been credited with the initial concept of switched digital video, having applied for a patent on the subject more than six years ago. Last week Brooks, along BigBand’s Biren Sood and In-Stat analyst Gerry Kaufhold, shared some of the lessons learned by Time Warner Cable on deploying SDV in a Webcast sponsored by BigBand and hosted by Communications Technology.
