Kathleen ‘Kip’ Mayo
Years in Cable: 15
Education: BA, Sociology, Westchester University; MBA, Temple University
Why Them? These two cable vets are the left and right hand of Cablevision’s customer experience. Mayo runs customer service, field operations and billing for the MSO’s 3 million customers—tasks that put her in charge of more than 8,000 employees, many of whom worked around the clock to aid customers during Hurricane Irene. Her team deserves a big pat on the back for the Bresnan integration and for prepping the company for the launch of Cablevision’s Optimum products in the former Bresnan markets earlier this year. Budill is a central figure at Cablevision as he continues to drive all of the operator’s programming negotiations and agreements. Cablevision recently added BBC America and TV One, and Budill also continues to broaden the company’s international offering that now spans 16 languages and 75-plus in-language channels. His team was vital to the Bresnan transition, migrating or adapting agreements for hundreds of channels.
Words of Wisdom: Work your weak side too, Budill says. That’s what he tells his kids. “Keep practicing with and using your off-hand. Play with balance.”
Year Ahead: Cablevision has big plans for 2012 with growth targets in business services as well as the continued rollout of its Optimum apps. Mayo will manage all the cogs that are in place to help deliver on these rollouts to consumers. The operator also has staked its claim as a leader in TV Everywhere. The next year will be a key proving ground with consumers.
