Why Them? The better question this year is, why not them? 2011 was a banner year for Myers and Albrecht, with the flagship Starz channel hitting 19 million subscribers, bringing the combined viewers for Starz and Encore to almost 52 million. The two have made some smart deals, notably an innovative co-development deal with BBC Worldwide Productions that will help ramp up Starz Originals with expanded production and programming capacity for more than 100 hours of original programming at mitigated financial risk.

Encore Originals: Encore also benefited from an infusion of originals for the first time, beginning with miniseries “Moby Dick,” and an extension into the Spanish-language market with Encore Espanol, launched on U-Verse and FiOS.

Year Ahead: Myers and Albrecht are pinning a lot on originals. 2012 will be a telling year.
