Sorrento Adds OTN Card To Product Families
New from Sorrento Networks is an Optical Transport Network (OTN) card within its GigaMux 3200 product family and its GigaMux 1600 platform. According to the company, the OTN card enables the simultaneous operation of multiple services on a single 10G wavelength.
The card also allows the GigaMux 3200 to provide a multiple-service platform over a full 80-channel wavelength architecture. Carriers will be able to migrate older single-wavelength services, such as SONET and SDH, to a WDM infrastructure.
“Our customers are growing their networks, and Sorrento is excited to support them as they expand their capacity,” noted CEO Jim Nevelle in a statement. “By using fiber cables already in place, we gain efficiencies in deploying new WDM networks, saving our customers money. In today’s environment, it is imperative that WDM providers give network operators flexibility and strive to solve bandwidth management issues within the market. With this new feature, Sorrento is responding to our customers’ needs.”
Company literature says Sorrento’s OTN technology addresses both legacy networks and future service offerings. “Customers could deploy the OTN card within an existing system or as they upgrade their network,” added Nevelle. “We’re also including our Tunable XFP technology and 80-channel filter architecture to give carriers greater flexibility and additional features that will meet their needs today and in the future.”
