Soaring Raven
Name: Abbe Raven
Title: President/CEO, A&E Television Networks
Age: “Old enough to have some wisdom.”
Years in Industry: 25
Years left in Industry: “25 more.”
Why Her? From the ever-shrinking age of the network’s median television viewer to inroads made in digital formats, Raven’s indelible mark is all over A&E. Working closely with EVP/GM Bob DeBitetto and EVP, distribution, David Zagin, she continues to guide a successful transition to the younger demographic by spotlighting A&E’s entertainment side while retaining enough arts savvy to satisfy longtime comers. She’s also making bold moves to continue the “down trend,” like putting Nancy Dubuc at the helm of The History Channel. And while some focus on the winning gamble A&E made for “The Sopranos,” Raven and company have been busy ramping up original programming—to the tune of $600 million—including a remake of “The Andromeda Strain” as a miniseries, a couple of reality series and a handful of scripted shows, including a drama that will debut next year as a companion to Tony and the boys.
