Rovi Corporation says France-based set-top-box (STB) provider Sagemcom’s BPRSI88-250 HD TNTSAT STB has integrated DivX Plus HD, the premium level of DivX certification.

The DivX Certified STB is available in France and is the result of a DivX technology licensing agreement between Rovi and Sagemcom. DivX Plus HD certification reportedly offers an enhanced visual quality, supporting video resolutions to 1080p. DivX Certified devices contain digital-rights-management technology to enable the secure playback of premium content in the DivX format.

Rovi is demonstrating DivX Plus HD at IP&TV World Forum today and tomorrow in London.

According to Olivier Taravel, deputy CEO at Sagemcom, "In addition to experiencing high-quality video playback, the viewers can now benefit from the many special features enabled by DivX Plus HD, such as smooth trick play, multiple audio tracks and various subtitle options."

Whether the content is on optical disc, USB drive or streamed wirelessly between devices over a home network using DLNA, devices certified for the DivX Plus HD profile can easily play back personal and protected Hollywood entertainment in DivX (.divx and .avi) and DivX Plus HD (.mkv) formats, Rovi notes.

In separate but related news, Informa Telecoms & Media, the organizer of IP&TV World Forum, just announced that the event will be rebranded as “TV Connect” to reflect the evolving industry and the rapidly converging TV market. ?

Comments Gavin Whitechurch, executive director, “While managed end-to-end telco IPTV will always be at the core of our coverage, our industry now encapsulates so much more. Our market is rich with alternative service terminologies; from multiplatform and multiscreen, to TV Everywhere, mobile TV, smart TV and connected TV, and OTT TV to personal TV. We believe our future – and that of the industry – is to bring together those different strands, and more, as we develop a world of connected entertainment.”?
