The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) has announced that Jay Rolls, SVP/technology for Cox Communications, will serve as program committee chairman for the 2010 edition of SCTE Cable-Tec Expo this fall in New Orleans.

Rolls, whose team is responsible for all new-technology developments throughout the Cox organization, will lead the program committee’s continued development of content that helps cable system operators to reduce costs, optimize network performance and enhance customer satisfaction. In his role as chairman, Rolls also will work with the vendor community to drive awareness of the benefits of advances in cable TV technology.

Rolls joined Cox in 1995 as director of multimedia technology. He was promoted to vice president of data engineering in 2001 and vice president of telephone and data engineering in 2003. Most recently, he served as vice president of technology development where he oversaw technology engineering for all voice, video and Internet products. Prior to joining Cox, he served as vice president of network engineering at Excite@Home.

Cable-Tec Expo is scheduled for Oct. 20-22 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. The theme of this year’s Expo is “Playing Cable’s Technology Tune,” reflecting the ability of cable networks to provide compelling and diverse services to the customer.
