Motorola Reports Public-Safety Testing Milestone
Motorola Solutions Inc. claims to be the first public-safety LTE vendor to complete all testing associated with Phase 3: Part One of the Public Safety Communications Research Program (PSCR) at the Department of Commerce, Boulder Laboratories in Colorado. Testing by Motorola and Ericsson demonstrated successful interoperability of the Radio Access Network (RAN) and Evolved Packet Core (EPC) with three network vendors. This test is part of Motorola’s quest to become an authorized supplier to FirstNet, the nationwide public-safety broadband network. In addition, Motorola’s UM1000 LTE USB Modem was selected by the PSCR test team to be the device of choice for all interoperability over-the-air and drive testing moving forward.

Taking Advantage Of BSS Transformations Now
In a Telecoms.com-commissioned survey, more than 85 percent of operators questioned believe they should centralize or standardize their BSS, citing such key benefits as reduced opex and the ability to introduce consistent products, services and tariffs for international customers. Some 65 percent of respondents also believe a cloud-based approach to BSS centralization would help ease many of their barriers to change. Notes? Mike Hibberd, group editorial director, “Although legacy BSS systems are often very sophisticated, many are expensive to maintain, and it takes too long to make the changes now needed for operators to exploit the opportunity of LTE and combat competitive threats. Given that BSS transformation is going to happen anyway, centralization and standardization present an additional opportunity to simplify operations and create substantial cost savings.”?
