Survey Sez: For FTTH, Alcatel-Lucent Rules
A poll by Infonetics Research says 70 percent of the world’s top service providers voted Alcatel-Lucent their preferred supplier for FTTH equipment, including xPON and Ethernet FTTH. The survey complements recent data from Dell’Oro Group showing Alcatel-Lucent as one of the top three GPON vendors globally. More than 160 Alcatel-Lucent FTTH projects are in the works globally, and some of its newest customers are China Telecom, BTES, Tunisiana, Vivacom, Oi and Telkom South Africa.
LTE Transitions: It’s All About Pricing
4G LTE revenues are set to top $340 billion by 2017 globally, compared with some $75 billion this year, notes Juniper Research, and this figure will represent approximately 31 percent of total service revenues from 2G/3G/4G at that time. Consumer subs signing up for services in volume this year will overtake enterprise subs in 2015. What wireless carriers need to do now is develop clear pricing strategies to transition customers from 3G to 4G, the firm notes, making sure they can recoup 4G spending and data costs while still offering acceptable and competitive pricing. Moving forward, Juniper says the vast majority of LTE revenues (almost 70 percent) will be generated by North American and Far Eastern/China markets.
