North American MSOs Still See Revenue Lags
The worldwide pay-TV market grew at a steady pace last year, comments ABI Research, generating $238 billion (up from $223 billion in 2011). By 2018, that total could grow to $304 billion globally, with a CAGR of 4 percent. As things stand now, revenue in the Asia-Pacific region continues to spike, but North American operators are experiencing a decline as result of a contracting subscriber base, despite such innovations as DVR and HDTV. On the IPTV side of things, market share increased from 10 percent in 2011 to 11.5 percent in 2012, and market share is expected to increase to 18 percent in 2018, generating $53 billion.
