Basic cable earned a 63.5% viewing share in ’06, clobbering broadcast nets’ share by more than 20 percentage points, according to SNL Kagan. As consumers spend a record 1.85% of avg US annual income on media consumption, PPV and VOD content is capitalizing on the trend. Together, content will grow 218% by ’17 to $8.9bln, led by VOD’s 450% growth increase over the same period to $5.5bln. Meanwhile, US wireless subs grew 12% last year.
