Why CSPs Need SDN, Virtualization To Move Data Forward
Software-defined networks (SDNs) and large-scale network virtualization are two emerging technologies IDC believes will combine to drive a more software-centric and programmable telecom infrastructure and services ecosystem. The group also says these “complementary and transformative technologies” will have a continuing impact on future communication service provider (CSP) business decisions. CSP networking of large data centers will be the first battleground for SDN, it adds, and networking data centers using SDN-based products and services will be driven by the requirements for hyperscale networked data centers built by specialist cloud providers like Amazon, Google and Microsoft, followed by CSPs like Verizon, AT&T, BT, Orange Business, NTT DATA, SingTel and Tata Communications down the line. As a result, when CSPs adopt new disruptive software platforms, they will enable multivendor network virtualization – an important piece of the interoperability puzzle.
