Altera Corporation’s Stratix V GT FPGA is shipping to JDSU for volume production of the company’s next-gen Optical Network Tester (ONT) solutions. JDSU is leveraging Altera’s 28-nanometer FPGA in its ONT-600 series to deliver what it says is the first test solution targeting CFP2 100G OTN environments. According to Altera, this product is the only FPGA shipping in production that features 28 Gbps transceivers; it supports backplane, optical module and chip-to-chip applications through four 28.05 Gbps transceivers and 32 full-duplex, 14.1 Gbps transceivers.
 
— The Smart Comms application for mobile operators, new from telco/OTT supplier Kineto Wireless, uses standard Rich Communications Suite (RCS) technology that lets operators upgrade their current telephony and SMS/MMS services and to introduce such IP-based communications capabilities as chat, VoIP and video. Smart Comms also aims to let mobile operators generate brand recognition for their telephony and messaging services.
