— The Cloud Services Lifecycle Checklist (ATIS-0200009) from the ATIS Cloud Services Forum focuses on six lifecycle functions: assessment, acceptance, audit, augmentation, abridging and annulment. It also gives service providers a way to measure a cloud service’s level of maturity and efficiency. ATIS believes adoption of the checklist also will reduce the time to market for cloud-based services. The document is available at www.atis.org/docstore/default.aspx.
— Cox launched a network of more than 750 Wi-Fi hot spots for its high-speed data customers in Northern Virginia. Cox subscribers have free access to the hot spots as part of their product bundles. Once customers connect to Cox WiFi using a wireless device, the same device automatically will connect for the following 30 days without customers having to re-enter their Cox credentials. In addition, users can attach three devices per user ID and 10 per account simultaneously.
— Eutelsat Communications added new Tooway broadband packages — dubbed Tooway S, M, L and XL — initially available next month through service providers in France, Spain, Italy, Germany and the U.K. The packages will offer download speeds as fast as 20 Mbps and upload speeds to 6 Mbps (except for entry-level packages). Eutelsat also unveiled an unlimited data service, called Tooway Absolute, for the first 20,000 customers across Europe. Customers subscribing to the L and XL service will get uncapped data usage overnight, allowing video and large files to be downloaded without impacting daytime data allowances.
