DISH: Executive vice president/COO Bernie Han now will oversee all direct and indirect sales and distribution in addition to his current responsibilities managing operations, IT, customer service, customer retention and corporate initiatives. Dave Shull, responsible for DISH’s programming and content acquisition group, was promoted to executive vice president/chief commercial officer, taking on product management, marketing and advertising sales.
 
CenturyLink Inc.: Kevin McCarter, currently vice president/general manager for the company’s central and eastern North Carolina markets, is the new president for the Central Region. He will be based in the region HQ in Denver, overseeing operations in an eight-state territory that includes Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas. McCarter will handle operational, financial and customer-experience performance along with six market-level vice presidents and general managers.
 
Capitol Hill: According to a new UMass Lowell–Boston Herald poll, U.S. Rep. Edward Markey (D-Mass.), who serves on the House Energy Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, has a double-digit lead over Democratic opponent U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch and the three Republicans in the race for the Senate seat vacated by John Kerry when he was named Secretary of State. The independent, nonpartisan poll found Markey leads Lynch by 29.5 percentage points among potential Democratic primary voters.
