MobileOne (M1) in Singapore plans to add IP capabilities to its 2G network as part of a network modernization initiative. The upgrade is intended to enable the service provider to deliver a better customer experience, roll out high-speed mobile broadband services, prepare for future growth at minimal costs, and a reduced carbon footprint. The modernization will be undertaken by Nokia Siemens Networks and is expected to be complete by 2011.

The upgrade to an all IP network is an important step for M1 in its move toward Long Term Evolution (LTE), and is intended to provide a smooth transition path to 4G.
