Semiconductor maker Diodes Incorporated is offering a new family of low-power, low noise block (LNB) power management and control ICs for use in set-top boxes, TVs with built-in satellite tuners and PC satellite tuner cards. First on the market are three single-output devices: the high-current ZLPM8010 (750mA) and low-current ZLPM8011 (450mA), both of which are full-featured and support DiSEqC 1 and DiSEqC 2 standards; and the low-current ZLPM8012 (450mA), with a reduced feature set and supporting the DiSEqC 1 standard only. To increase overall STB system efficiency, the company says the ICs’ low quiescent current boost converter operates from a standard 12V power rail and uses a low Rds (on) (270mΩ) MOSFET power switch. In turn, the converter supplies a 500mV LDO regulator, providing control signals and low noise power output to the LNB. The devices’ standby operating mode puts it into a deep sleep mode in which current consumption is only 600µA…GlobeCast‘s IPTV platform, MyGlobeTV, has made its U.S. commercial debut with today’s launch of 16 premium Romanian-language channels; differentiated channels will continued to be rolled out this year. Currently, the solution uses a set-top box connected to the viewer’s existing broadband connection. By the end of 2012, however, GlobeCast expects to launch the app version of this product, allowing viewers to access the service from any Internet-enabled device. Notes Emma Brackett, vice president/Consumer Video Products and Services, "With MyGlobeTV, (operators) can develop new revenue streams and expand their viewer base by reaching markets not easily accessed via DTH satellite. We will continue to develop the service by adding more channels from around the world that include content from many different genres, such as science, music, history, drama, faith and culture."…Extreme Reach Inc., which provides video ad-distribution and ad-serving solutions, is crowing about its milestone in TV advertising: more than 7,000 U.S. and Canadian video media destinations are connected to its cloud-based TV-ad-distribution network. The privately owned network digitally connects to 30 percent more TV and HDTV media outlets, compared with competitors, the company adds. Comments COO Tim Conley, “The 7,000 milestone means that all advertisers, especially those with time-sensitive political and promotional messages, can now respond faster, be more competitive, and connect to more media and larger audiences in record time.”
