— Multiscreen video provider Envivio says its HEVC Early Access Program for OTT or pay-TV apps will be available for new installations or as a software upgrade in the second quarter. The software upgrade encodes HEVC streams in HD encoded by Envivio Muse and decoded by the Broadcom BCM7445. According to Envivio, the new HEVC standard is expected to reduce bandwidth consumption by 50 percent compared to MPEG-4 AVC. In IPTV architectures, operators reportedly can increase eligibility to reach more customers and second/third screens while, in satellite and cable environments, HEVC can be used to increase the number of channels service providers can deliver in transport or QAM, it adds.
