The American Cable Association presented its Lyn Simpson Grassroots Spirit Award to Milestone Communications president Michael Drake at the Independent Show in Chicago on July 31. ACA chose Drake, who is a member of the organization’s board of directors, because of his advocacy efforts on behalf of independent cable operators. The next night, ACA presented Jim Gleason, president and COO of New Wave Communications and ACA’s chairman of the board, with its Leadership Award, and honored Patriot Media, CableWorld’s Independent Operator of the Year. DIGITAL-FRIENDLY COX IN CTAM HALL OF FAME
CTAM selected Cox’s campaign, "Cox Communications: Your Friend in the Digital Age," as its 2006 inductee into the CTAM Hall of Fame. Cox was honored for its successful marketing in the 1990s, which enabled it to convert cable-only customers into multi-service subscribers. When high-speed Internet was introduced in 1996 and digital phone in 1997, marketing campaigns showcased Cox’s ability to deliver reliable services and provide top customer care. The CTAM Hall of Fame honors influential marketing campaigns that are more than five years old. CTAM’S NEW BOARD MEMBERS
CTAM elected three new members to its board of directors: Tim Brooks, EVP, research, Lifetime Television; Mike Lee, chief strategy officer, Rogers Communications; and Patricia Gottesman,EVP, product management and marketing, Cablevision Systems. The board is chaired by David Watson, EVP, operations, Comcast.
