Motorola has been selected by Unwired Fiji to design and deploy an end-to-end 802.16e-based WiMAX network to upgrade and provide increased capacity to the operator’s existing network for expansion of network coverage and capacity. The deployment is intended to allow Unwired Fiji to offer advanced broadband services and strengthen the operator’s market position.

Unwired Fiji, a wireless broadband Internet service provider, plans to build a nationwide network, offering full Internet services and bringing the media mobility experiences to home users and businesses. The WiMAX network deployment is expected to be completed in 2009, and the operator plans to launch services progressively this year.

In other Motorola news, the company has received WiMAX Forum certification for its 2.5 GHz CPEi 25150 (data only), CPEi 25750 (data and VoIP), and WiMAX Access Point (WAP) 25600 solution. The company’s WAP 25400 was certified in June 2008.
