Not surprisingly, smartphone users have surpassed non-smartphone users in usage of mobile apps and Internet browsing, according to comScore, which provided some interesting data covering just who’s using smartphones and what their using them for. For the 3 months ending Aug 31, 56% of smartphone owners who availed themselves of mobile apps and Internet browsing were male, while 25-34s topped all other age groups in the functions. Mildly shocking was the far greater usage among 35-44s than 18-24s. Regarding downloaded apps, the most accessed type was weather, followed by maps and social networking. Browser use was dominated by Web search, which ranked well ahead of social networking and news. See below for details.
