"We are the best friend that cable can have." That’s the message that TiVo is hoping to convey at this year’s CTAM Summit. "We’ve been able to communicate that at the corporate level pretty effectively, but it doesn’t always get disseminated to all the folks," said Jeff Klugman, TiVo svp, gm of service provider & advertising engineering division. His team will be promoting that all of TiVo’s products are geared toward cable, not satellite or telcos (its DirecTV deal blew up). TiVo’s such a buddy, it’s even borrowing cable’s language, announcing a triple-play offering for ops. Part 1: the upcoming HD CableCARD TiVo box that works exclusively with cable. At $299, it’s way cheaper than the Series 3 HD box. Part 2: TiVo has launched a hand-on customer support initiative designed to assist MSOs with the transition to CableCARDs. Part 3: TiVo’s continued development of an integrated software application for ops’ existing DVR boxes (Comcast is slated to be the 1st to roll out the product next month). — TiVo shares closed up more than 3.6% Mon after Kaufman Bros upgraded the stock to "Buy" from "Sell" and upped its 12-month price target to $9 from $5.
