In today’s world, you are expected to know about many types of cable technologies, such as WiFi, DOCSIS, VOD and HDTV, just to stay ahead in your career. That is why I encourage all of you to join us for SCTE’s Cable-Tec Expo, where you will maximize your EXPOsure to these critical technologies through Expo’s vast offering of educational opportunities on the exhibit floor, in the workshops and at networking events. With three days to explore the exhibit hall, you’ll have plenty of time to soak up the latest in cable engineering products and services. You’ll learn about new technologies, meet face-to-face with vendors to ask questions and get demonstrations. You will leave Expo with the information you need to make informed decisions on which products and services work best for your company. Practical tools Walking the floor is impressive-an entire show devoted to cable engineering, with lots of opportunity for hands-on exploration of current tools. It is one of biggest reasons why Cable-Tec Expo appeals to so many people in our industry, including those in product development, system operations, engineering and new business development. Cable-Tec Expo is a completely unique arena, one in which cable engineering is the number one priority, and hardware the main focus. There are no programmers in the hall; nearly everybody there is geared toward providing knowledge about the latest in technical tools and their applications in an environment that is conducive to practical learning. As you enter the exhibit hall, you will see product-specific hardware displays, featuring fiber, connectors, modems and more; the familiar faces of peers you have been meaning to catch up with; and plenty of colleagues you still hope to meet. Plan ahead for your Expo experience by using the virtual floor plan, available on the SCTE Web site at www.scte.org. With this resource, you can decide which products you must see and set up appointments with vendors ahead of time. The floor plan allows you to search by exhibitor or product category. You also can view product descriptions and contact information. Cable-Tec Expo features more than 20 educational workshops on today’s hottest issues, such as WiFi, DOCSIS and HDTV. Topics include: advances and changes in VOD; bandwidth management; customer premises environment; network management; rolling out the triple play; transport systems and architecture; and workforce management. Visit the SCTE Web site for detailed workshop information. Plus, gain valuable insight into cable’s hottest issues from leaders in the industry during the CEO and CTO panels. Visit the SCTE Web site at www.scte.org for a list of panelists, which will be announced soon. Be sure to attend the wrap-up roundtable discussion, "HDTV: What You’re Not Doing Might Hurt You," on Friday, June 18 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., to find out about the potential pitfalls and success strategies from an MSO engineer perspective. In addition, enjoy yourself at Expo Evening, watch regional winners compete in the Cable-Tec Games and see the industry’s best at the Awards Luncheon. I look forward to seeing you there!
