ZTE will mass-produce a variety of Ethernet passive optical network (EPON) products for China using Marvell’s AVANTA family of processors. The agreement comes one year after entering into a strategic cooperation relationship between the two companies around fiber-to-the-x (FTTX) solutions-and follows field trials with China Telecom.

AVANTA’s Universal PON technology is a single-chip solution that supports three fiber media protocols: EPON, gigabit passive optical network (GPON) and Active Ethernet.

"AVANTA, with its high-gigahertz CPU and numerous integrated hardware interfaces, helps us create and deliver compelling services on an accelerated timeline," said Zhu Yongxing, vice general manager of ZTE Fixed Network Product Lines, in a statement. "We also chose Marvell’s solution because its SoC architecture is optimized for building common platforms for both EPON and GPON."
