VP, IT, Suddenlink Communications
Humphreys Gee oversees strategy and execution of Suddenlink’s billing and support, from the time of the order through payment. That means she not only handles development of compliance, reporting, statement creation, product provisioning and more, but she also leads the company’s geographically dispersed team implementing those initiatives. Who would she want to job-swap with? Believe it or not, the person that gets to name new OPI nail polish colors. “How fun to come up with names like You’re a Pisa Work, Tutti, Frutti Tonga or Will you Mari-Achi Me,” she says.
What’s your favorite part of your job?
Change is the favorite part of my job. When I interviewed for my first position in the industry, my then-future boss told me, “I can’t promise you a lot, but one thing I can guarantee is you will never be bored.” His words have been true for 32 years!
How do you define success in the workplace?
I would define success in my workplace as being seen as a trusted, credible, collaborative business partner that projects a can-do attitude. I want to be someone whose contribution is clearly a “value add,” who has a seat at the table and helps to define strategic initiatives.
Best trick for maintaining the personal-professional life balance?
Prioritize—both professional and personal. Not everything will be top priority in either world. Take the personal time whenever it is available and recharge so that you have the energy to put out the fires or work the additional hours.
Who would you want to swap jobs with for a month and why?
If I could swap jobs with anyone for a month, I would want to be the person that gets to name the new OPI nail polish colors! How fun to come up with names like “You’re a Pisa Work,” “Tutti, Frutti Tonga,” or “Will you Mari-Achi Me”?
