Macrovision Changes Name, Launches Guide
Macrovision Solutions Corporation has changed its name to Rovi Corporation and unveiled a new media guide, code named “Liquid.” The new guide is capable of connecting consumers to content on the Internet and digital content stored at home, as well as broadcast and cable TV in a single user interface.
Rovi also announced today that it is working with Blockbuster to integrate access to Blockbuster OnDemand content and services directly through the Liquid guide.
The Liquid guide is designed to provide a direct access to content from online entertainment services such as Slacker radio and YouTube XL, a website that is optimized for watching YouTube videos on large displays. It is also compatible with leading movie technology provider Roxio CinemaNow.
The Liquid guide is capable of learning the preferences and tastes of viewers based on their interactions with the guide. The guide uses this intelligence to store favorites and make metadata-enhanced recommendations. The guide also stores user profiles, so each member of the household can retrieve a personalized guide when he or she turns on the TV.
The Liquid guide is slated to be available for CE manufacturers in early 2010.
