The Dept of Defense’s Pentagon Channel launches today, with 26 providers on board to carry the net. Most of the channel’s initial carriage will be within military bases and stations, but Pentagon Channel head Allison Barber says Phase 2 will be to reach out to the top 10 MSOs and other cable operators. Funded by the govt, the Pentagon Channel is free to cable and satellite providers (for information on accessing its satellite feed visit http://www.pentagonchannel.mil). The channel kicks off with live coverage from Andrews Air Force Base, which is hosting an open house today. Regular programs include: "Around the Services," a daily, half-hour program featuring military news from Defense officials and military around the world; "Destinations," a monthly look at European attractions; and "American Forces Network Europe Evening News," daily news and info from the US European Command.
