NAB, Tribune, Viacom, NBC-U and the Newspaper Assn of America asked the US Supreme Court to make the FCC’s new broadcast media ownership rules law. A lower court struck down the rules last year. — EchoStar threw a monkey wrench into Universal Music’s plan to launch a 24-hr music channel and Vivendi’s suing in a bid to force the DBS company to carry the new net on Dish. Universal divested itself of its $1.5bln stake in EchoStar in ’02, but the company insists it retained carriage rights for its developing nets.
