Level 3 Communications has been selected by HBO to be a provider of content delivery network (CDN) services supporting the new HBO GO mobile app delivery initiative. The application, which launched on May 2, gives HBO subscribers access to HBO programming on their Apple iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch as well as select Android devices. To enable delivery of this premium media content, HBO will leverage Level 3’s expertise and network capacity for delivering bandwidth-intensive content to mobile devices.

The HBO GO mobile app is free of charge to HBO subscribers through a participating TV provider. The application provides HBO subscribers in the U.S. with access to more than 1,400 titles.

Level 3’s streaming solutions are designed to help content owners like HBO meet growing demand for rich media – both live and on-demand – across multiple formats and devices, by leveraging the scalability of its Tier 1 IP backbone.
