BigBand Networks announced that Beijing Gehua Cable TV Network has selected BigBand’s Edge QAM BEQ platform to deliver interactive HDTV and broadband Internet services.

Gehua Cable operates the broadcasting and cable TV network as well as reception and transmission of broadcasting and cable TV programs within the Beijing municipal area. The large-scale cable network covers all 18 districts and transmits more than 100 channels to 3.2 million people.

“We are delighted that Gehua Cable has expanded our relationship,” said David W. Heard, chief operating officer of BigBand Networks. “We’re bringing this industry-leading platform to China to support new services like interactive HDTV.”

In addition to the BEQ, Gehua Cable also has deployed the BigBand Broadband Multimedia-Service Router. In October of 2008, Gehua Cable provided coverage of the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics Games using the BMR.

It continues to be used today in Gehua’s digital TV network headend system.
