R.L. Drake has checked in as distributor of LG Electronics’ Pro:Idiom cable transcoders to cable operators in the United States and Canada. Drake will integrate the Pro:Idiom system into its Drake Digital Hospitality Solutions, a customized line of products for the lodging and health care industries to offer securely encrypted HD video content for guests. Drake Digital HD Hospitality Solutions also includes a custom designed, secure, rack-based headend for each property incorporating LG’s Pro:Idiom Cable Transcoders, Drake’s Edge QAM Modulators, related technical components, and Drake customer support.

Pro:Idiom is a DRM system developed specifically for all ranges of lodging properties, from small hotels to mega-resorts. It is designed for fast, broad deployment of HDTV and other digital content with secure encryption. Pro:Idiom is embedded in the TV set, which eliminates the need for set-top boxes in the room, and prevents guests from tampering with components or pirating digital content. The system is intended for both cable-delivered pay TV content and VOD services.
