AFL Buys Aussie Fiber Maker
S.C.-based AFL acquired Australian fiber-maker Optimal Cable Services, and the buyer hopes to build its business and customer base across Asia via this purchase. Optimal manufactures uni-tube, stranded loose tube, armored loose tube, high count loose tube, riser and all-dielectric self-supporting (ADSS) cables in addition to composite, cords and ancillary products. In separate but related down-under news, Emulex Corporation, which provides network connectivity, monitoring and management, now owns 89 percent of New Zealand’s Endace Limited, a supplier of network visibility infrastructure products.

N.M. Cableco Now Part Of TDS
Telephone and Data Systems Inc., parent company to TDS Telecommunications Corp., plans to buy substantially all of the assets of N.M-based cableco Baja Broadband LLC in a deal worth $267.5 million. Baja generated annual revenues of $82.4 million in 2012, and it has approximately 285 employees. As of Dec. 31, 2012, Baja passed approximately 212,000 homes, comprising some 74,000 video subscribers, 56,000 high-speed broadband subscribers and 15,000 digital voice subscribers.
