New Comcast RDK Licensee
ThinkAnalytics says it’s the first recommendations engine to license the Reference Design Kit (RDK) software stack from Comcast, and it will use the RDK for software development, integration and testing services to STB and chip manufacturers. ThinkAnalytics’ customers include Liberty Global, Cox Communications, BSkyB, Virgin Media, ITV and Telenet.
 
Sierra Wireless Sells Off AirCard Division
Netgear
is paying $138 million in cash plus approximately $6.5 million in assumed liabilities to acquire all of the assets and operations related to Sierra Wireless’ AirCard business. The seller expects to realize net cash proceeds of approximately $100 million from the asset sale, which could close by the end of March. Some 160 employees, primarily in sales, marketing and R&D, will be transferred to Netgear as well as certain facilities in Carlsbad, Calif., and Richmond, B.C. Moving forward, Sierra Wireless plans to be a M2M and connected-device pure play, focusing on hardware, software and cloud-based products and services targeting the “Internet of Things.”
