Sierra Wireless Sells Off AirCard Division
Netgear is paying $138 million in cash plus approximately $6.5 million in assumed liabilities to acquire all of the assets and operations related to Sierra Wireless’ AirCard business. The seller expects to realize net cash proceeds of approximately $100 million from the asset sale, which could close by the end of March. Some 160 employees, primarily in sales, marketing and R&D, will be transferred to Netgear as well as certain facilities in Carlsbad, Calif., and Richmond, B.C. Moving forward, Sierra Wireless plans to be a M2M and connected-device pure play, focusing on hardware, software and cloud-based products and services targeting the “Internet of Things.”
