Cox Business has selected Alcatel-Lucent’s IP service router products and services to support Ethernet-based solutions for its business and carrier customers.

Cox Business is currently the fourth largest provider of business Ethernet services in the United States based on customer ports, according to industry research firm Vertical Systems Group.

"Ethernet offers network flexibility and more capabilities at a lower cost, making it the preferred networking technology of many IT decision makers," said Kristine Faulkner, VP of product development and management at Cox Business, in a prepared statement. "Cox Business delivers reliable Ethernet solutions to our customers over both fiber and hybrid fiber coax (HFC)."

The Alcatel-Lucent Internet Protocol/Multiprotocol Label Switching (IP/MPLS) solution enables Cox Business to deliver services over a common service routing edge based on the Alcatel-Lucent 7750 Service Router.
