DragonWave, a supplier of packet microwave radio systems for mobile and access networks, has announced Horizon Quantum to provide more bandwidth than legacy microwave solutions – up to 4 Gbps per link.  Quantum requires half as much carrier rack space and integrates key nodal intelligence that enables network operations to be streamlined.

“Clearwire’s position as a global leader in deploying 4G service places us at the forefront of backhaul network development where we are today building one of the world’s largest, most dynamic and cost-effective microwave backhaul solutions,” said Dr. John Saw, CTO of Clearwire. “Horizon Quantum will help us achieve even higher capacity in our backhaul network to serve the increasingly high-bandwidth demands of our customers.”?

Horizon Quantum is a native Ethernet implementation delivering record capacity and supporting sub-0.1-millisecond latencies. With its integrated switching capability, it can perform aggregation and serve as a switch for ring and mesh network architectures.

“Our involvement with customers like Clearwire has allowed us to understand first hand the needs of leading 4G service providers,” said Peter Allen, president and CEO, DragonWave. ? ?Horizon Quantum is scheduled to ship by the end of 2009.
