Stephanie Mitchko-Beale
SVP, Interactive Platform Technology
Cablevision Systems Corp
Mitchko-Beale is well-versed in technology, programming and interactive advertising—the perfect troika of knowledge as she leads development of Cablevision’s software infrastructure to support new consumer technologies. She excels at bringing interactive technologies to traditional media models, often before her competitors as was the case with the development of Cablevision’s cloud-based DVR service DVR-Plus. Among Mitchko-Beale’s other leading roles are the creation of content management and publishing systems for the ITV platform and development of linear advanced advertising apps such as telescoping, addressable targeting and dynamic ad insertion.
What’s your favorite digital toy and why? My iPad. It seems like every day an innovative new company comes along with an app that makes it more and more valuable. And with Cablevision’s Optimum App, I can watch my TV and VOD in any room of the house. It can also act as a remote control – its one remote in the house that never gets lost!
When it comes to digital trends, what’s something the kids are doing today that we’ll all be doing tomorrow? It is not so much what they are doing, but how they are doing it – everything is portable. They have no physical restrictions to entertainment or communications. This portability will eventually become the norm. One thing kids are doing today that I hope we will not all be doing in the future is texting, Facebooking or going online during a family time, such as dinner.
If you were wearing Google’s new Project Glass eyewear right now, what would be on your screen? Real-time GPS. I always want to know where I am, where I am going and what’s around me that’s important, interesting or special. There is history and information all around us and I love to soak it in.
Would you rather own a flying car or a jetpack—and why? Jetpack. It allows more personal freedom, especially in urban areas. And, I loved it in the Jetsons, so why not now? Although, if we are really thinking in the future – teleportation would really be the best way to travel. What can I say, we live in a world of instant gratification.
