Twenty-year cable and entertainment vet Strauss leads Comcast’s multiplatform video strategy, including its TV Everywhere initiative and the development of emerging platforms. He helped Comcast build out its VOD platform and led the company’s early 3D strategy, and leads the operator’s online and multiplatform entertainment and media businesses, including the XFinity suite and its most recent incarnation, XFinity Streampix. The latest entry on Strauss’ plate is the new X1 cloud-based programming service Comcast will begin rolling out this summer.
What’s your favorite digital toy and why? DVR. I can’t watch live TV without the ability to control experience.
When it comes to digital trends, what’s something the kids are doing today that we’ll all be doing tomorrow? Video chat.
What’s cable’s biggest digital opportunity in the next year? Deploy new user interfaces and guides.
What digital strategy mistake must cable avoid at all costs? Not evolving products and business models to meet changes in consumer demand.
What’s on your wish list for the iPhone 5? Virtual keyboard.
Would you rather own a flying car or a jetpack—and why? Flying car. I’d like to take my family along for the ride.

Sinclair Still Confident on RSN Streaming Launch

Sinclair is still on track to release the direct-to-consumer product that would carry content from its regional sports networks in the first half of 2022, and president/CEO Chris Ripley reiterated on the company’s 2Q21 earnings call Wednesday that the broadcaster has the full support of its distribution partners.
