David Preschlack

Title: EVP, Disney and ESPN Media Networks

Age: Younger than Brett Favre

Education: BA, Economics, Denison

Social Media Quotient: 3

Why Him? As a former econ major, Preschlack no doubt knows the impressive financials at Disney’s cable nets start and end with compelling content. ESPN, of course, is the dominant player in the sports genre (is there any sport it doesn’t cover?), leading to impressive ratings growth recently at the flagship net and ESPN2. Disney Channel’s arguably the leader in targeting younger demos, evidenced by its inclusion in the top 5 cable nets in prime virtually every week. Disney XD, meanwhile, is on its way to becoming the go-to channel for young boys.

Soft Ball: You wouldn’t know it by following Disney Channel, but the kids’ cable market remains soft and very competitive. Can XD continue its upward momentum amid the turmoil? ESPN has rebounded from sports softness this year, so perhaps Disney content will lead the way again.

The Year Ahead:

With ESPN back from a rough stretch and Disney Channel as strong as ever, Disney’s integration of Marvel Ent characters can only add enchantment to the Magic Kingdom.

Favorite Food: Anything and everything

Drink of Choice: Guinness

Most Admired Trait: Honesty

Favorite TV Shows Not on ESPN: 24, 30 Rock

Favorite Part of My Job: Leading and inspiring the people I work with.
