Winner
AMC – The Trivial Pursuits of Arthur Banks
We’ll commend AMC on two counts here—first for having the guts to produce Web series and second for doing it right. This effort, which stars Dazed & Confused Adam Goldberg and follows the dysfunctional life of a struggling playwright whose romantic entanglements become darkly (and comicly) problematic, fits well into AMC’s flawed-hero motif while projecting a classic vibe. Its black-and-white filmic treatment and endlessly cringe-inducing scenes in which neuroses and narcissism dance awkwardly offers up a Woody Allen-esque commentary on the absurdities of modern life. In addition, AMC populates the Arthur Banks site with plenty of extras, including character sketches, quizzes, video “side stories” and more. This first effort of AMC Digital Studios bodes well for future endeavors.
