G4 – G4tv.com
Many cable networks view their branded online presence as an interactive brochure whose primary purpose lies in promoting its shows in a relatively balanced way—all while projecting the net’s “mojo” through design aesthetic. G4tv.com, however, takes it to the next level. Sure, you can find out about all the shows on G4. But interestingly, that’s not the primary content. Instead G4 has committed 100% to serving its gameboy (and girl) audience with a site that spends more time reviewing games, offering cheat codes and other useful info to gamers than it does promoting G4 content. The result is a rabid fanbase that considers G4 an ally and constant companion. G4’s Website is so good, it pretty much operates as its own business—with new game releases often spiking traffic to record levels. At the same time, linear integration is key: During G4’s on-air coverage of the annual E3 gaming conference, Web traffic reached record highs. It just goes to show: Serve your audience, and they will come.
